Infrastructure

When visiting the Dominican Republic you’ll notice right away that modern technology is a way of life for many here; from cellphones and internet service to safe drinking water and modern modes of transportation. Most of the larger cities enjoy the conveniences of the 21st century. Telephone lines span the country while electricity is also readily available in all but the most remote areas. The roadways are mostly well maintained though dirt roads are common in some of the outlying areas. There are 13 airports in the country, servicing local and international travel and two national transportation systems, one private the other public, providing economical ground transportation within the country.

Jobs in the Dominican Republic are available but may take some time and flexibility on the part of the job hunter. For the best paying jobs most companies will hire within their own country and transfer their employess to the Dominican Republic. If you speak Spanish and plan to search within the country for a job, research and diligence will pay off. Certain requirements for foreigners may apply and before attempting to find a job the applicant should investigate these requirements to avoid any legal hassles or red tape.

1 Health care

Health care services are modern and clean in the Dominican Republic but may be less available in outlying and remote areas. There are many clinics and hospitals available throughout the country in the larger cities offering affordable services. Well trained staff and clean facitities in these areas make the foreigner feel comfortable when a medical situation arises. If you plan on relocating to the country, private insurance carriers offer plans that can start at only $30 per month. Some doctors may accept American Medicare and other American Health Plans but the hassle of paper work and the long wait for payment makes acceptance of these plans rare.

2 Security

The Caribbean in general is known as a safe travel destination and the Dominican Republic is no different. When traveling in any foreign country, tourists should always follow a few common safety tips which if allowed to become habit will ensure a worry free visit. One of the most important safety tips is one of simplicity and should be followed while visiting anywhere; never leave money or valuables lying around in your room or in an unlocked car. Never leave your belongings unattented, never walk alone at night and always be aware of your surroundings.
