Having fun in Dominican Republic![]() Living on a Caribbean island can offer not only sunny weather, sandy beaches and soft breezes but a multitude of more energetic activities to fill your days and evenings.. 1 Sports and activitiesThe array of activities offered in the Dominican Republic will keep the most active people busy their entire stay. Because the Dominican Republic is part of a Caribbean island every conceviable water activity is offered including scuba diving and snorkeling in the crystal clear Caribbean waters, kiteboarding and windsurfing and don’t forget deep sea fishing, one of the most popular activities for both men and women. Inland, you’ll easily find activities including mountain and jungle hiking and mountain biking. One of the best ways to see the beautiful sights of the Dominican Republic is to try several of the local tours that can give you access to secluded and untouched jungle and mountain locations. River tours are a very popular way to experience the jungle and it’s wildlife while relaxing on a comfortable boat leisurely cruising calm river waters. For the less adventurous, enjoy beautiful golf courses and poolside or seaside waiters with an endless supply of tropical beverages. For a touch of by gone days the Dominican Republic is home to many historical sites including a castle near Santo Domingo, and an early European fort near Puerto Plata. Also Puerto Plata is home to the country’s only Oceanic Aquarium. 2 The coastThe beaches in the Dominican Republic are the brillant white sand of legend due to the high content of coral and seashell. Most beaches have a multitude of services supplied by the large resort hotels situated along the countries shores. You’ll easily find lounges and umbrellas, providing a shady place to enjoy the day . When the beach gets too warm, wade into the shallow crystal clear waters and float a while in calm cool waters. Tall coconut palms are scattered along the miles of Dominican Republic shores and offer shade for the less visited beaches. And don’t forget the several small islands just off the Dominican shores for a more private Caribbean beach experience. 3 NightlifeWhen looking for entertainment after the sun goes down this small country offers many choices, from the hotel clubs and beach bars to locally owned and frequented nightclubs and pool halls. Casinos in the more popular tourist destinations will have dancing and drinking in addition to gambling and attract a wide range of visitors both local and foreign. The local clubs offer a more traditional drink and music selection while the large hotels offer music from local favorites to American Hip Hop and Jazz. Both young and old will find fast paced music, a rhythmic beat and the feel of the music soon lures everyone onto the dance floor. Several resort hotels have beach bars where you can enjoy your favorite drink and a new companion or old friend while watching the sun slowly set over the Caribbean waters. Once the sun is gone enjoy local entertainment and participate in many of the lively activities.Whether you’re at the hotel’s bar, a casino, a local club or the beach try some of the local rum. 4 EventsChristmas is by far the most celebrated holiday in the Dominican Republic. Here the Christmas celebrating starts early in December and continues through New Years ending January 6th with the arrival of the Three Kings. During this time, Christmas Trees are available in many local stores and come decorated with colorful lights and ornaments. If not visiting during the Christmas season don’t worry, anyone wishing to experience local and historic customs can find some type of festival in the Dominican Republic year round. These events will give visitors a peak into the local customs, food, dance and songs of the region. The Dominicans love to celebrate and put much effort into their events, celebrating energetically. Often these festivals incorporate elaborate costumes, vigorous dance and song with a traditional flair for pagentry.
