Taxes

image_chapter

Many people believe there are no property taxes in the Dominican Republic and for some this may be true, but the truth of the matter is there are property taxes, depending on the value of the property. Unfortunately the tax system in the Dominincan Republic is somewhat unorganized. Property tax bills are not sent to homeowners like in America, so many property owners never pay taxes and some may not know they even have any. Because the taxes are minimal at best most property owners simply pay the delinquent taxes when they sell their property and never worry about paying a yearly tax.

This is not a wise choice for the future as the tax systm is undergoing a reform of sorts and getting more organized. Although a slow process, the Dominican Republic government is making attempts to modernize the system. For Americans, paying taxes is a way of life and after paying huge property taxes in American it will be a pleasant surprise finding out how little you’ll be paying for property taxes in the Dominican Republic.
