Infrastructure![]() Honduras has a modern and reliable infrastructure. Several ports provide easy entry and exit for cargo ships carrying goods in and out of the country while air travel is convenient with 4 international airports in the country. Roadways in the country are a mixture of paved and dirt. Telecommunications are very good with relatively new phone lines spanning the country. Fax and telephone is available to all but the most remote areas. Several internet providers offer services to most of the larger cities. Electricity is provided by both Hydroelectric and Thermal plants and the need for electricity has increased recently due to the availability of electricity in more remote areas. The best medical facilities can be found in and near the more populated areas. The hospitals and clinics are more likely to be situated near popular expatriate relocation hubs. Many doctors in Honduras were educated in the U.S. and keep current on procedures and new technology. Costs for services are very low compared with the U.S. and the services in most instances are competent. When visiting any foreign country travelers insurance is always advisable. The policy should include evacuation services for a medical emergency. The job market in Honduras may not be what Americans expect or need to survive. The country still has a high rate of unemployment and jobs that are available are in order with manual labor paying a very low wage. Many decide to start a business rather than seek employment and the tax incentives offered by the Honduran government for approved tourism projects can relieve the business owner from taxes for up to 20 years no matter how much you make. These approved projects can be as simple as a restaurant or curio shop. 1 SecutityMost tourist destinations in Honduras are relatively safe but remember you are in a foreign country and precautions are always recommended when traveling. Because some areas of Honduras are still considered poverty stricken it’s wise to always stay in a group.
