Events

Holidays, festivals and celebrations in Honduras are lively and festive and the celebrating of certain holidays can span a week with parades, processions and unique festivities and pageantry. Other holiday festivals end in all night street parties with dancing and singing and cultural foods. Some events are held nationwide such as Honduran Independence from Spain while other events are strictly local commemorating local heroes and legendary figures and events.

These festivals and celebrations often include parades featuring elaborate costumes and energetic participants. Street vendors selling local crafts and goods, food and other local wares give the visitor a view of the regional culture and a feel for their traditions. Music is a common part of every festival and sometimes the music is the celebration. Sunjam Utila is one such event. Held on the deserted island of Water Cay, this event features music from around the world and lasts just 24 hours. It’s considered one of the most isolated events in Honduras.

After one visits Honduras and sees everything this small country has to offer some people realize Honduras is where they would like to live or retire. The cost of living coupled with generous tax incentives, a friendly and welcoming culture, beautiful tropical beaches, jungle and mountains all add up to an affordable paradise. It’s a wonder more people haven’t realized what an extraordinary place Honduras is.
