Having fun in Honduras

image_chapter

Activities and recreation are what you would expect from any Caribbean coastal country, miles of sandy white beaches with vivid blue water and sky, wild and beautiful rugged mountains soaring to the sky, and the tropical jungles filled with exotic wildlife, but Honduras can provide something other more popular destinations can’t; uncrowded destinations. Tourists are just catching on to this tropical paradise but until they fully recognize Honduras as a great vacation spot, the people who visit now can enjoy a quiet and beautiful destination; one that feels private and peaceful.

1 Sports and recreation

Sport fishing is one of the many popular sea going activities and can provide an exhilarating experience when your pole bends and the big one is on the line. You can choose to fish from shore in one of the many lagoons or take a day long excursion on one of the many charters available.

If fishing isn’t something that interests you maybe snorkeling or scuba diving is something that will. The Bay Islands offer some wonderful underwater vistas including a large coral reef teaming with colorful fish. Other coastal activities include water skiing and kayaking. Surfing is a popular activity with lessons for the inexperienced and tours are available to the best surf beaches. Even if you don’t surf, watching from the shade of a coconut palm is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon.

Seadoos are available for rent and exploring some of the calmer waters can yield beautiful and deserted beaches just begging for you to stop and spend some time enjoying the views, cool breezes and gently rolling waves. Inland try hiking and white water rafting, horseback riding and ATV tours. If you want to experience an activity a little less energetic golfing is always a popular choice and many great courses are available and have very reasonable green fees.

2 Beaches

The beaches in Honduras and the Bay Islands are some of the most picturesque in the Caribbean and can often be very private as well. Since Honduras does not yet attract the number of visitors that other tourist destinations do, you’ll enjoy quiet beaches, swimming and snorkeling at your leisure. White sand, clear waters and soft breezes are common in Honduras and many visitors value the peace and quiet this undiscovered paradise offers.

The more popular beaches are easily accessible. Many are based at the foot of hotels. These beaches will offer amenities including lounge chairs, umbrellas and waiters serving tropical drinks sunscreen and fresh towels. Other beaches however offer solitude and may take some time and effort to reach. Some beaches in Honduras are only accessible via boat or kayak while others will require an adventurous ATV excursion.

3 Nightlife

Honduras has a wide selection of after dark entertainment including jazz clubs beach bars and local nightclubs and pool halls. In any of these you’ll be able to dance the night away or sit and relax with a tropical drink or Honduran beer. If watching the sunset is something you enjoy, try one of the beach bars. After the sun sets other activities including dancing will make the night enjoyable and before you know it you’ll be watching the sun rise.
