Immigration Info![]() There are two categories of residency for immigrating foreigners that can easily be obtained. One is as a retired resident (residente pensionado) the other is as an income resident (residente rentista). A retired resident receives an income from social security or other retirement plan while an income resident receives income from other sources either from another country or Honduras. Either residency status allows the resident to import household goods within the first year tax free. All paperwork and information needed for either status can be acquired from a Honduran Consulate and may require specific acts and paperwork from the consulate. It’s best to contact the Consulate in your area to see if they can process your request. If this isn’t possible the Honduran Consulate in Miami is very proficient at getting the paperwork processed quickly and efficiently. Some of the required documentation includes passport photos and a birth certificate, and a cover letter addressing why you want residency in Honduras. You’ll need a marriage certificate if you’re married, a certificate from your doctor stating you are in good health, a letter from your local police department stating you’ve lived in the area for at least 6 months and have no criminal record. You’ll also need to prove you earn at least $600 per month from your retirement. An income resident will need to provide proof of $1000 per month income. Along with this paperwork additional forms and information will be needed. Once you’ve completed all the requirements you’ll be contacted for a short interview and additional personal information will be required. The process includes the aid of a Honduran attorney and the process can take several months and a lot of leg work. Other residency status is available and will have its own process and requirements for application. Information for all residency requirements can be obtained from any Honduras Consulate or the Honduran Embassy. Embassies and Consulates The Honduran Embassy is in Washington DC while consulates are situated in many of the larger metropolitan areas of the U.S. These areas include Miami and Boston, Los Angeles and Houston. Several others are available as well and can help with immigration issues and requirements as well as aiding Honduras citizens in the U.S.
