Amenities and Conveniences

image_chapter

Most large cities in Mexico offer all the amenities and conveniences of any American town, with restaurants, movie theatres, shopping malls and supermarkets. You’ll find a vast selection of different cuisines from traditional and local fare to more exotic selections. Smaller towns offer the basic amenities, grocery stores and small restaurants, just don’t expect all the frills of the popular and populated cities.

Medical services in smaller towns are not what many Americans are used to although the doctors are competent and qualified; the facilities are not as modern as the US and other countries. Larger cities will offer more state of the art facilities. In these facilities insurances are accepted though deposits may be required. These services should be researched in depth before your relocation to avoid any lapse in coverage and to ensure your insurance will be valid in Mexico.

Because Mexican medical services are generally less expensive you’ll find foreigners coming to Mexico for certain medical procedures. The doctors can often be from foreign countries as well and generally can charge much lower fees due to the affordability of the facilities and the use of cash. Dentists along the border see American patients of a regular basis and most travel back and forth to take advantage of the reasonable costs. Prescriptions are another service that is very reasonable in Mexico compared to the U.S. Most pharmacies sell certain drugs without prescriptions while others will require a prescription. Both will be less in cost than purchasing in America and most people see no difference in the quality of their medications.
