Transportation![]() Roads and streets in Mexico vary. Some new and modern highways that charge expensive tolls and offer safe passage throughout Mexico are stretching throughout Mexico while smaller older roads are traveled free of charge. Many of these roads may be in disrepair and some may only offer one lane. These roads are scattered throughout the country. In some of the smaller and less populated towns dirt roads will be common. International and national airports can be found in many of the larger cities and air transportation is safe and common. Larger cities see a large number of cars and bicycles as transportation but buses and taxi’s are all common in these larger cities as well. Bicycles are a common mode of transportation in some of the outlying areas as are motor bikes and cars. Car rentals are expensive and often avoided unless absolutely necessary. Tourists may bring their vehicle in to Mexico for a limited time and there is a fee associated with this privilege. Different visas will allow visitors to bring in their own vehicle but certain restrictions apply according to your visa status.
